Health Lessons
Classrooms Across
20 Countries
We teach free health and science lessons to children at orphanages and children’s homes around the world, live over Zoom, through recorded videos, and through translated slides that local directors reteach.

ways to teach: live Zoom, recorded video and translated slides
Why we teach
Our goal is to give underprivileged and underrepresented children a strong foundation in health and science through free enrichment classes. Each lesson explains the background of a disease, the biology of what happens inside the body, and the steps that prevent it, so children can protect themselves and the people around them.
Where internet is limited, we send recorded videos or translated presentations that orphanage directors and staff reteach to hundreds more children.
A note on our session images: our original session recordings and screenshots were lost. Images labeled “Recreated session view” were rebuilt from our lesson slides and session records rather than captured live.
Where we teach
Our partners around the world

Partner countries are shown in blue. The star marks Great Neck, New York, where CHEN is based.
01 · Rwanda and Indonesia
Global Mission Ministries
Recognizing the lasting effects of the genocide in Rwanda, we teach STEM lessons to 60 orphans supported by Global Mission Ministries, introducing many of them to science for the first time. After positive feedback, the ministry is bringing these lessons into the local school it supports, and we are coordinating lessons for more than 120 orphans it supports in Indonesia.

02 · Kenya
Promise Giving Children’s Home
Promise Giving Children’s Family shelters, feeds and educates 50 children who are especially vulnerable to disease. We record video health lessons covering the background of each disease, the biology of what happens inside the body, and how to prevent it. The founder then brings the children to live sessions to ask questions, and they keep asking for new topics.
03 · Angola
Sister Domingas and Friends Foundation
The foundation educates children living on the streets, children whose mothers are working, and children who cannot afford government schools. We host live biology classes for more than 50 of these children every weekend.

04 · Nagaland, India
Rintaniemei Neighbourhood Children’s Home
After reading about the home’s trip to the Nagaland Zoological Park, we reached out to build on the science the children had started exploring there. More than 20 children attend and take part in each class.
05 · Afghanistan
AFCECO
With the Taliban restricting girls’ education, we teach biology to three girls from AFCECO who stand up to that injustice every day, to support their goal of reaching higher education.

06 · Pakistan
SOS Children’s Village
SOS Children’s Villages care for and educate orphaned and abandoned children around the world. We teach science lessons to children in their villages in Pakistan to strengthen their scientific learning.
07 · Nigeria
House of Mercy Children’s Home
House of Mercy has cared for vulnerable children in Nigeria since 2006. We teach health lessons over Zoom that build in biology, to help keep the children safe and give them a foundation for exploring STEM.

08 · Orphanage partner
Ssembwa Orphanage Care
Ssembwa works to give orphans a quality education, and we have extended it into the sciences. More than 20 students, spanning over ten years in age, join each class.
09 · Liberia
Hope and Care Outreach
We teach STEM to 10 children from third to twelfth grade, using Zoom or recorded videos depending on their internet connection. With the recordings, students prepare questions that we answer at the next lesson.

10 · Namibia
Children’s Sanctuary Namibia
Children’s Sanctuary Namibia runs education programs to help children reintegrate into their communities. Together we introduce primary school students to biology through interactive Zoom lessons, hoping early exposure encourages them to keep pursuing STEM.
11 · Cameroon
Save the Children Alliance Orphanage
We taught health lessons to more than 10 students and now follow a biology curriculum with them to prepare them for STEM at their local school.

12 · Indonesia
Seeds of Hope Children’s Orphanage
We teach more than 40 students at Seeds of Hope. We also send a transcript of each lesson so their mentor can share what they learned with her church group.
13 · Thailand
Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation
We taught health topics, including the background of diseases, prevention and an action plan, to about ten staff members, who then shared them with the 95 children living in the village.

14 · Cameroon
Cibaeeva Orphanage
We found Cibaeeva through its founder’s story of growing up moving between homes and her dedication to caring for sick children. We taught her the biology behind common diseases and how to prevent them, then sent a translated presentation so she could teach more than 200 children about diseases such as malaria.
15 · Orphanage partner
St. Cecilia Orphanage
Moved by St. Cecilia’s mission to build a sustainable, loving home for children, we offer the children enrichment lessons in biology and other basic sciences.

16 · Australia
Barnardos Australia
After learning about the educational gaps faced by young children affected by domestic abuse and mental illness, we began discussing a future tutoring program with Barnardos Australia.
17 · Namibia
Promiseland
Promiseland provides a home for vulnerable children around Walvis Bay. We teach health and STEM lessons there, hoping to spark a passion for science in some of the children.

18 · Lagos, Nigeria
Makoko Children Development Foundation
Families in Makoko often live in small spaces without enough resources. We teach the foundation’s director so that the lessons can be retaught to the hundreds of children the foundation supports.
19 · Lagos, Nigeria
Makoko Dream Foundation
Many children in Lagos live in slums without access to school. We teach health lessons to the foundation’s students and sometimes invite them to read the slides aloud.

20 · Kampala, Uganda
Jesus Care Orphanage
Jesus Care helps children around Kampala live healthy, sustainable lives. We teach the director and provide our presentations so they can be retaught to the children at the orphanage.
